It's time to unplug and unwind!

Let's be honest, our phone is the first thing we check in the morning and the last thing we do before we go to bed. A guilty pleasure that we all can't seem to shake, basically an addiction. It's time to unplug and unwind, and what better day to do it than for NATIONAL UNPLUGGING DAY! A 24-hour detox from technology and any distractions!

HOW TO UNPLUG:

PUT AWAY YOUR PHONE

Putting your phone away when you hear the ringing of notifications and buzzing from texts isn't easy. However, the significant change in your mental health is worth noticing. Let your friends, family, and work know that you will be turning your phone off for the day.

DO SOMETHING ACTIVE

The best way to enjoy a detox from technology is to be productive. Whether it's going on a hike, your favorite workout class, or a nice long walk, it's important to get active. Technology often causes us to neglect our healthy habits, therefore, make the most out of your technology-free day and experience life around you.

RELAX & UNWIND

How do you love to relax? Whether it's reading your favorite book, taking a relaxing bath, doing a face mask, turning on the show you have been wanting to watch, or pouring a glass of your favorite wine, it's time for a bit of self-care.

SPEND TIME WITH FRIENDS/ FAMILY

These days, electronic devices have become our constant companion. Spend today catching up with an old friend or spending time with your family. Engage in your conversations and be fully present; your relationships will only grow stronger.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT:

ALLOWS YOU TO BE PRESENT

3 in 4 Americans spend 3+ hours a day looking at their phone. We don't thoroughly enjoy living in the moment because we are so focused on our phones. Enjoy nature when you go for a walk, listen to the simple noises around you, and engage in the conversations you are having. Noticing the little things around you will bring calmness to your day.

GOOD FOR YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

The amazing benefits of disconnecting from your phone can help reduce anxiety and depression. You no longer are scrolling through Instagram comparing yourself, having FOMO, or anxiously waiting for someone to text you back. Removing your phone allows your brain to take a break, clear your head, and improve overall happiness.

HELPS WITH PRODUCTIVITY

As valuable as phones can be, they are very distracting. Fewer distractions mean more productivity. We have all been there when we need to get something done but find ourselves scrolling through Instagram or watching TikTok, and the next thing we know, it's too late to get anything accomplished. You would be surprised at how much you can achieve when you're not distracted by your cell phone.

IMPROVES RELATIONSHIPS

Although our phones allow us to be connected to the world, they also make us disconnected. You don't need to meet up with your friend anymore to ask a question; you can facetime or text. Often, you make plans to hang out with your friends, and you both are not even communicating but face deep in your cell phone. Take this time to ask how your friends are doing, listen and engage.
